EXPERIENCE:

The Chicago Medical School, Adjunct Assistant Professor, Managed Care Course Director

  • Created one of the countries first managed care courses for medical students. Course teaches business principles practicing physicians should be aware of in the practice of medicine. This course examined the business, legal, ethical, and public policy issues.
  • Conducted a training program at three major hospitals. The program was tailored to primary care internal residents and included topics of ethics, risk management, quality improvement, and quality assessment.
  • Public speaking engagements for Grand Rounds program providing continuing medical education credits for attending physicians.

Planning and Development, Senior Attorney and Legal counsel for HMO America, Inc. (parent company of Chicago HMO Ltd.)

  • Systematized contracting process to develop provider network and employer groups.
  • Negotiated and drafted broad range of contracts such as provider contracts (including primary care physicians, specialists, hospitals, pharmaceutical companies, and others) as well as contracts with employer groups.
  • While working closely with local, state and federal regulatory agencies, recommended changes to all HMO agreements with providers and employer groups to stay in compliance with regulations to maintain operating license.
  • Reviewed and advised HMO regarding pending legislation, and recommended changes in product offerings to comply with new laws.
